Tim Eves Dies From Wii Fit?

Can Wii Fit be hazardous to your health? Tim Eves, a 25-year-old Norfolk, England native, was playing Wii Fit with his girlfriend Emma Tuck and his friend, Lewis Hickin, when he dropped to his knees and died. He had been jogging in place playing 'Wii Fit.' According to the Sun, Tuck and Hickin unsuccessfully tried to revive Eves. He was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

The probable cause of death was Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (adult cardiac arrest). (The Sun) For other alleged Wii injuries see: (Wiinjuries.) So is it better to play games that make you scream Weeee (like the three little pigs) or to play a kille game of tennis on the Wii?

Robert Stewart Arrested For Nursing Home Massacre

Robert Stewart, 45, apparently murdered seven people and wounded three others, including a police officer and a visitor in a Carthage, North Carolina nursing home shooting. The murdered patients ranged from 78 to 98 according to Moore County District Attorney Maureen Krueger. Stewart is currently in custody.

Why Stewart was in the nursing home remains a mystery. He was not an employee of the Pinelake Health and Rehab Center. So far, it does not appear that Stewart was related to any of the patients. Make no mistake, it appears to have been a planned attack. Stewart had a rifle, a shotgun and some other weapons. Officer Justin Garner is being hailed as a hero for preventing an even larger massacre. Wounded officer praised
Jerry Avant, was a 39-year-old registered nurse/employee who was killed in the shooting. He apparently had over twenty gun shot wounds to his body.

Stewart will be charged with eight counts of first-degree murder. A charge of felony assault on a police officer is also anticipated. He is to be considered innocent of all allegations and charges until he is proven guilty.
Update 3-30-09: Legal Pub has received a tip that the alleged suspect's estranged wife worked at the nursing home. This apparently is violence once again stemming from a domestic dispute.

Clifford Harris (T.I.) Sentenced Today As A Changed Man?

"I love Legal Pub, but cover more news about brothers." Quite frankly, Legal Pub tries to avoid the whole "inbred" scene, if that is what you are referring too. If it is referring to "Band of Brothers" well, there are simply only so many movies that we can review. If it is one of our siblings, sorry, but immediate families are typically exempt from coverage. On the off chance it refers to the music industry, here goes:

Clifford Harris, the famous rapper known as T.I. appears today in federal court for sentencing on weapons charges. (T.I. allegedly got caught buying machine guns and silencers.)
Harris as already mentored some at-risk students as part of his community service. He is expected to receive a one year prison sentence, pay $100,000 in fines and comply with all the terms of his plea agreement. He will not actually spend any time in prison provided that he complete 1000 hours of community service.

Harris recently released his CD, "Paper Trail," which has sold close to 2 million copies. Harris has also appeared in the movie "ATL" and in some Chevy commercials. Harris gun bust happened in October 2007 in Atlanta. At the time he was prohibited from gun ownership because of a 1998 felony drug conviction involving possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute.

Harris' attorneys presented more than 100 letters thanking him for his community service. Georgia Supreme Court Chief Justice Leah Ward Sears, wrote that Harris did an "outstanding job" talking to a group of teenagers about not breaking the law. Perhaps true reform is possible. Good luck to T.I. and his new album.

A Hamburger A Day May Lead To A Hospital Stay ~by Dr. B.

Cattle ranches may be defensive, but studies are starting to confirm what intuitively many have believed for some time, namely: older folks who eat large amounts of red meat and processed meats may face a greater risk of heart disease and cancer. A recent study of more than half a million men and women shows increased health risks of consuming red meat like hamburger and processed meats like hot dogs, bacon and cold cuts. Classification of the risk, remains elusive as there appears to be a lack of a consensus. For example, Rashmi Sinha of the National Cancer Institute calls the risk "modest." Sinha, however, supports the advice to limit consumption of red and processed meats in order to reduce the risk of cancer.

So how high is the risk? The study of 545,000 people (ages 50 to 71) over 10 years suggest that eating the equivalent of a quarter-pound hamburger a day raised a man's risk of dying of cancer by 22 percent. The risk of dying of heart disease similarly increased by 27 percent. For women, the increased risk was similar: 20 percent increase for cancer and 50 percent increase for heart disease. See the 3-23-09 Archives of Internal Medicine.

The study suggests that folks who eat more chicken and fish had lower risks of death. The study took into account other risk factors such as high body mass, smoking, and family history of cancer. Besides the health benefits, cutting back on consumption of red meat may decrease the number of our nations livestock which allegedly produces "greenhouse gas emissions" which are blamed for "global warming." (Yes, less farting cows means less smell and more ozone protection.)

The National Pork Board and National Cattlemen's Beef Association apparently dispute the significance of the findings because it studies people who ate red meat in extreme amounts instead of average amounts. However, it seems even supporters of red meat consumption accept the proposition that most people would benefit from limiting their red meat and processed meat consumption to "reasonable amounts." Of course, what is reasonable to a beef eater and what is reasonable to a vegetarian, may vary...

Operation Dual Identity Makes Your Car Sleep A Bit Safer Tonight

Your auto just got a little safer this week. Yesterday, the FBI reportedly broke up a huge auto theft network in the U.S. pursuant to "Operation Dual Identity." Warrants for 17 people in Tampa, Miami, Chicago, Mexico City and Guadalajara, Mexico have been issued. The suspects are accused of "cloning" vehicles (making stolen cars look legal.)

This organized crime syndicate allegedly operated in the U.S. for more than 20 years allegedly resulting in over 1,000 vehicles being stolen in Florida. Victims range from the average Joe car owner to the banks that financed the cars. "Cloning" occurs by taking license plates, vehicle identification numbers (VIN), and other tags and stickers from a legal car and putting them on a hot car. Any consumer who buys the car or any bank that lends on the car risks losing everything because once a stolen vehicle is discovered, the police are obligated to return it to the rightful owner.

Formaldehyde and 1,4 Dioxane In Baby and Child Products Warrants More Intelligent Consumer Practices

It is simply no longer safe to assume baby or child products are safe. Parents need to be informed consumers. From the site that warned about child cold medicine (LINK), we now turn to other potential hazards. Last week it was revealed that dozens of popular children's bath products may contain two cancer-causing chemicals according to The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics. The organization paid for a study to test 48 top-selling children's products for 1,4-dioxane and 28 of them for formaldehyde.

Formaldehyde is a by-product of a preservative added to the products to prevent bacteria growth and extend their shelf-life. 1,4-dioxane is a foaming agent in some products.
Twenty-three of 28 products tested contained formaldehyde. 17 of those products contained both formaldehyde and 1,4-dioxane. According to the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics report,
Johnson's Baby Shampoo, L'Oreal Kids Extra Gentle 2-in-1 shampoo and Pampers Kandoo foaming hand soap contained one or more of what some percieve to be hazardous ingredients.

The US National Cancer Institute has shared studies involving workers exposed to formaldehyde. The studies link formaldeyde to cancers of the nasal sinuses, nasopharynx, brain and possibly leukemia. (Keep in mind, the amount of exposure to formaldeyde may be a critical factor in any correlation.)

Sixty Seven percent of the 48 products tested contained 1,4-dioxane. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission claims that even trace amounts of 1,4-dioxane give "cause for concern." Similarly, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Department of Health and Human Services have both identified dioxane as causing cancer in animals and as a "probable human carcinogen."

THE DISSENT: The Personal Care Products Council dismissed recent study as being "patently false." They considered the amount of the two chemicals found in the products are considered to be 'trace' (extremely low). They conclude that the amount of the chemicals are well below established safety thresholds and therefore are not a cause for concern. The trace amount of chemicals may actually serve the purpose of ensuring that the products are safe and gentle but still prevent bacterial growth.

THE REBUTTAL: While the amount of these chemical is below current threshold limits, perhaps the threshold is too high when it comes to children. Children are arguably more vulnerable to the toxic chemicals.

GOVERNMENT'S POSITION: Formaldhyde and 1,4 dioxane are for the most part unregulated in the United States. 1,4-dioxane is banned in Europe. Europe places some restrictions on formaldehyde but it is not by any means banned.

BOTTOM LINE: Be a smart consumer. Don't panic just because your child has used products containing these substances. However, look to make future purchases of products that are formaldhyde and 1,4 dioxane free. This will force outstanding companies, like Johnson and Johnson to manufacture products without these chemicals. Better safe then sorry.

Aleyda Uceta Allegedly Punches And Bites Principal Rudolph Mosely, Jr.

Teachers are always complaining that parents are not involved enough in their children's education. Well, that can't be said about a Rhode Island mother. Aleyda Uceta is apparently involved in her 11 year old's education. Apparently, too involved. Uceta, of Rhode Island, faces criminal charges after allegedly punching and biting her son's principal, Rudolph Moseley, Jr. Apparently, Mosely told her that he was suspending her son for three days because he refused to go to a room for misbehaving students. The disciplinary action apparently prompted Uceta to punch and bite the principal. This is not kindergarten. Aleyda Uceta is 30 years old. She certainly should know better then to assault a Roger Williams Middle School principal. But to make matters worse, she also apparently resisted arrest.

Uceta is charged with assault on a school official, assault on police officers and resisting arrest.
Principal Rudolph Moseley Jr. was allegedly assaulted after he told Uceta that her son would be suspended for three days for refusing to go to a room for misbehaving students. According to police reports, Uceta punched Moseley in the face and bit his left arm. Moseley was not seriously injured.

Aleyda Uceta is to be presumed innocent of all charges unless otherwise proven in a court of law.

Charlie Viullanueva Serves To Remind Us Not To Post While On Duty!

If one refuses to rehash the AIG bonuses or discuss the latest comedy "He Just Isn't Into You," then the attention turns to blogs. Blogs have become big time. Audiences have grown and so have the number of posters. Even famous posters. Even writers helping other writers on their upcoming stories.

Some sites, like Legal Pub encourage anonymous entries. Others let identities be known. No where is that more clear then in the sports arena. Recently, Milwaukee Bucks coach Scott Skiles caught one of his players, Charlie Villanueva, posting from the Bucks' locker room during halftime of a game. Charlie posted on a popular basketball site from his mobile phone.
His coach was understandably upset.

Using the screen name "CV31" — Villanueva's initials and jersey number — Villanueva posted
"In da locker room, snuck to post my twitt. We're playing the Celtics, tie ball game at da half. Coach wants more toughness. I gotta step up." While Villanueva went on to play a good game, Coach Skile's message is clear that no more posts from the locker room will be tolerated.

So, for you Judges on the bench, attorney in the court room, actors and actresses on set, policeman walking the beat, soldiers keeping the wolves at bay, heavy machine operators, drivers of motor vehicles, or moor comedians on stage, please curtail your posts to Legal Pub until you are off duty.

Were Gregory Jacobs Organs Harvested For Transplant Before He Was Dead?

Sometimes the time of death is real clear. For example, when a crocodile ate an 11 year old girl who was swimming too close to dinner time in Australia, the ending was pinpointed. Other times, the time of death is much more controversial. For example, an Ohio couple claims that doctors harvested their son, Gregory Jacobs' organs before he was declared dead. the eighteen-year-old from Bellevue, Ohio suffered a "closed head injury" two years ago while snowboarding in Findley Lake, N.Y.

His parents feel his organs were prematurely harvested and they are backing up their claim with a lawsuit. Parents Sue Medical Officials

Two years ago, the teen was airlifted to Hamot Medical Center in Pennsylvania. The teens parents' lawsuit claims doctors and a representative of The Center Organ Recovery & Education (CORE) prematurely caused the teen's death by administering medication and by removing his breathing tube. Michael and Teresa Jacobs believe that Gregory had not been formally declared brain dead prior to surgeons beginning to harvest his organs.
Hamot and CORE deny any wrongdoing. Hamot claims that proper consent was received in order for his organs to be donated and all protocols were followed.

Plaintiff's apparently claim that records would suggest that they started harvesting procedures including the incision when he was alive. They further believe that he was pronounced dead 29 minutes after the procedure began. Plaintiff's are represented by attorney, Dennis Boyle.

March Madness Infects Team Mascots Like Big Blue and Pistol Pete

March Madness is here! But the "madness" is not limited to basketball players, coaches and fans. It sometimes extends to mascots! Saturday, Utah State benched its mascot for the championship game between the Aggies and Nevada. The reason? "Big Blue" the bull and New Mexico State's "Pistol Pete" got into a physical confrontation near the end of a semifinal matchup. one Wild

Who started it? Well, apparently, Big Blue pulled Pistol Pete's mustache. Big Blue the bull ended up pulling off the fake mustache.. Pistol Pete then pursued the bull and tried to choke him into submission. Mascots Behaving Badly

As noted from the above link, this is not the first mascot incident. For example, Rice University's Sammy the Owl was tossed from a game after getting physical with a referee.
A Diamondbacks' mascot, Baxter, was recently fired for allegedly driving a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol. He may also have smoked some marijuana earlier in the day.
The Penn State Nittany Lion mascot was suspended after a DUI charge in November. This resulted in the student actor missing the Rose Bowl. Pittsburgh Steelers' team mascot, Steely McBeam, was arrested and accused of DUI.

Las year, a fight broke out between Oral Roberts' Eli the Eagle and IUPUI's Jawz the Jaguar. Watch Fight In 2007, the Oregon Duck out pointed the Houston's Cougar which warranted a suspension. Watch Battle
Mariners' Moose hit former Red Sox outfielder Coco Crisp with an ATV in 2007. Also in 2007, San Francisco's Giants mascot Lou Seal allegedly got in trouble for challenging Dodgers fan to a fist fight. Benny the Bull got in trouble for shooting a T-shirt gun at two Boston Celtics last year.

NMSU ended up winning 71-70. Apparently the $100 Big Blue accepted for pulling off Pistol Pete's mustache will be donated to Kids Kottage, a shelter for abused and neglected children. Since NMSU won and the charity is $100.00 richer, perhaps this one would be a good "no call."

Howard Stern, Khristine Eroshevich and Sandeep Kapoor Are Deep In Hot Water Over Anna Nicole Smith's 2007 Death. Update 10-30-10.

Howard K. Stern, Anna Nicole Smith's long time friend and companion may be in trouble. That trouble may also extend to a doctor friend of Stern, Dr. Sandeep Kapoor. Both Stern and Kapoor were jailed Thursday on charges of conspiring to furnish drugs to Anna Nicole Smith in 2007. (Booking Photos here are courtesy of the L.A. County Sheriff's Department.)

Both Stern and Dr. Sandeep Kapoor were released from a Los Angeles County jail after each posted a $20,000 bond. Dr. Khristine Eroshevich may faces similar charges. Allegedly, Stern and the doctors used fake names so that Smith could be anonymously prescribed "thousands of pills," according to California Attorney General Jerry Brown.
Anna Nicole Smith, at the age of 39, died from an accidental overdose on February 8, 2007. We knew then, that someone would likely take the blame. That someone is apparently Stern and the above named physicians.

At the time of Smith's death, several prescription medications in Smith's and Stern's names -- were found in her hotel room. Both prescription and over-the-counter drugs were found in Smith's system. Human growth hormone and chloral hydrate, a sleep medication, were also sound in Smith's blood. Each defendant was charged with eight felonies and could face up to 3 years in jail for each count. Kapoor and Eroshevich were each charged with obtaining a prescription for opiates by "fraud, deceit or misrepresentation." Felony criminal complaint
Update 10-30-10: Howard K. Stern, Smith's boyfriend and lawyer, was convicted of conspiracy for helping Smith obtain a controlled substance by fraud and for providing a false name for a prescription. Her psychiatrist, Khristine Eroshevich, was found guilty of conspiring with Stern on the fraud and false name charges. Khristine was also convicted of unlawfully prescribing and obtaining Vicodin through fraud and use of a false name. There was two months of testimony and nearly 12 days of deliberations.
Smith's medical doctor, Sandeep Kapoor, who prescribed methadone and a variety of other drugs under the alias Michelle Chase, was acquitted of prescribing excessive drugs and prescribing to an addict. Kapoor claimed that he did not believe that Smith was a drug addict.
Expect an appeal from the two defendant's who were convicted.
Update 1-7-11: Howard K. Stern received good news when L.A. County Superior Court Judge Robert J. Perry dismissed two conspiracy felony charges against him Thursday. The judge also dismissed two conspiracy charges against Dr. Khristine Eroshevich and rejected a charge against her of unlawfully prescribing a controlled substance. Furthermore, the judge reduced a fraud charge to a misdemeanor and sentenced Eroshevich to a year of probation. Apparently, Los Angeles District Attorney Steve Cooley disagreed with the ruling and will appeal the decisions. Judge drops charges

Michael McLendon and Tim Kretschmer Are Cowardly Killers Who Exemplify Idiocracy

Michael McLendon, 28, is an example of what ails this world. "Idiocracy." While this word is not recognized by Websters, it was the title of a movie worth watching. Tuesday, Michael McLendon went on a shooting rampage that killed 10 people. He started by killing his mother in his hometown of Kinston, Alabama. Then he brought his reign of terror to Samson and then Geneva. To make matters worse, McLendon was once a police officer in Samson, Alabama. The senseless killing ended at the Reliable Metal Products plant in Geneva. McLendon engaged in a shoot out with police and then culminated in him killing himself. Fatalities are believed to be as follows:
James Alford White, 55
Tracy Michelle Wise, 34
Dean James Wise, 15
Corrine Gracy Myers, 18 months
Andrea D. Myers, 31
Virginia E. White, 74
James Irvin Starling, 24
Sonja Smith, 43
Bruce Wilson Malloy, 51
Lisa White McLendon (his mom), 52
CNN's Brooke Baldwin

Similar idiocracy occurred in Germany. There, Tim Kretschmer, 17, began shooting people at his former school in Winnenden. Eight female students, three female teachers and one male student were shot to death. This has to be just another in a long line of senseless cowardly killings that have become way to common.

Have Linda Nef, Valynne Bowers as Well as Those Dealing With Drug Cartels Simply Lost Their Heads? ~by Jester

What do teachers and those dealing with the Mexican Drug Cartel have in common? Some lose their heads. How else can you explain it? Two Utah teachers are in trouble after sleeping with a 13 year old student. Not at the same time, mind you. But nonetheless, so foolish of an act that the only explanation is that they lost their head (common sense.) Apparently Linda Nef befriended a 13 year old student who had some personal problems. It began with texting, then sexting (sending sexual messages and images by text) and wound up with having sex multiple times over the course of 2007. Apparently after ending the relationship, a second teacher, Valynne Bowers allegedly had sex with the teen in 2008. Now again, if the charges of rape and sodomy hold up in a court of law, the only explanation for their behavior is that the teachers completely lost their respective heads.

This is eerily similar to the latest message from the Mexican Drug Cartel. In the past Legal Pub has covered the violence in Mexico. LINK. Now five human heads were found in ice chests on under a ficus tree in the Jalisco, Mexico. One theory is that this is evidence of drug cartels fighting for supremacy. Others theorize it is a message to those that deal with the cartels. Each head was nicely packed in a separate ice chest. The tops of the ice chests contained messages, threatening further violence. Even our new President recognizes the problems below the border: Obama discusses violence .

One of the heads is believed to be someone well known in the local community. Definitely a violent message that could have been communicated much more tactfully. Yet it appears that now days, teachers and those involved with drugs simply lose their heads over the most stupid things...

Update: Due to spamming any future comment on this thread must be submitted directly to legalpub@legalpub.net

Ms. Calabaza Shares An Economic Recovery Plan

Ms. Calabaza provides the lead in to todays story. Given the sad state of our economy, this add seems most appropriate for those who have lost their ass in the stock market and with mutual funds.

Unemployment has hit a 25-year high. Even worse, most employers indicate that hiring isn't likely to increase any time soon according to a Manpower Employment Outlook Survey released Tuesday.
A slower hiring pace for the second quarter of 2009 compared to the first quarter means the recession will persist longer then some thought. Sixty-seven percent of employers expect no change in their spring hiring plans. Jeffrey Joerres, chairman and CEO of Manpower, said in a statement.
Only 15% anticipate anticipated increasing hiring during the second quarter. This represents a decline from 26% in the same period last year.

14% expect a decrease in their payrolls. The net employment outlook is the worst that has been seen since the recession of 1982. Only employers in construction, leisure and hospitality anticipate employment increases. A recent government report revealed that our economy has lost 3.3 million jobs over the past six months. Our unemployment rate is in excess of 8.1%, which represents the highest rate in 25 years.

So, any one want to buy a tractor?

Fred Winters Gunned Down By Terry Sedlacek While Preaching To His Congregation? Keith Melton and Terry Bullard Subdue the Attacker

Is it even safe to attend service anymore? Is it just another excuse for atheists to justify not attending religious service? When violence strikes our nation's churches, it causes more than the usual mumblings. The latest incident occurred in Maryville, Illinois. Fred Winters, the pastor of the First Baptist Church in Maryville, was shot to death during a service on Sunday. Two parishioners (Terry Bullard and Keith Melton) suffered knife wounds when they tackled the 27 year old gunman after his gun jammed. The shooting occurred during the 8 a.m. service. The attacker (believed to be Terry Sedlacek) and two parishioners were cut during the altercation. The gunman walked up to the pulpit and exchanged words with Winters. He then fired four shots, destroying the pastor's Bible and killing Winters. It is unclear whether the pastor recognized the gunman.

Fortunately, the .45-caliber pistol jammed after he shot Winters or others may have been killed. After the gun jammed, the attacker pulled out a knife as he was tackled by two parishioners. 150 worshippers witnessed the attack. The attackers injuries are "very serious," according to Illinois state police spokesman Ralph Timmins. Watch Police Description of Heroes.

When shots rang out, most parishioners fell to their knees "screaming and praying." But at least two took action and subdued the gunman. Winters, 27, was married and had two children. He was considered a pleasant pastor who was well liked by the congregation. A motive for the shooting is still unknown. The suspect was taken to St. Louis University Hospital.

The church will hold a prayer vigil at 6 p.m. at Metro Community Church in Edwardsville, Illinois, about six miles north of Maryville. First Baptist Church has around 1,000 members.

In the mean time, this church shooting comes on the heals of Jim Adkisson, a 58-year-old man, killing two people in a Knoxville, Tennessee, church during a children's play in July. Two people were killed and six wounded in that Tennessee Valley Unitarian Shooting. Adkisson pleaded guilty and faces life in prison without parole.

If our country's freedoms are to endure, these unfortunate tragedies can not be empowered to alter our exercise of the right to assemble and our right to worship.
Update 3-10-09: 27-year-old Terry Sedlacek has been charged with murder for the shooting death at the First Baptist Church in Maryville. According to the media, Selacek marked the day as "death day" in a planner. A motive for the killing remains to be seen.

David Paradiso Serves As An Example of Why Court Room Security Screening Is Essential

Standing in line for over 20 minutes, one could not help but wonder why all this security was needed in order to enter a court house. It was not always like this, you know. Prior to assaults on witnesses, Judges and attorneys, the court house was presumed to be a place of order and decorum. Twenty-eight year old David Paradiso reminds us why such security has become a necessity. Paradiso was shot by a police detective after he left the witness stand and began attacking San Joaquin County Superior Court Judge Cinda Fox. Paradiso had just testified that he had killed his girl friend "cause she deserved to die."
Judge Fox called a recess and Paradiso left the stand and approached the judge from behind with something sharp. Paradiso began striking the judge the bailiffs ran to help. Lodi Police Det. Eric Bradley then shot Paradiso. Bradley apparently saved Judge Fox' life. Next time you are standing in line waiting for a security check, remember the story of David Paradiso and then wait patiently.

Hugo Chavez Orders Nationalization of Cargill And May Do So With Polar As Well

I remember it like yesterday. My older brother and I were playing Monopoly. He had Boardwalk and I had Park Place. It was at worst a stalemate. At best it was finally the possibility of success. Suddenly he took my deed to Park Place and said, "I am nationalizing this property."

"It's not fair, you are not following the rules." I said to my 12 year old brother who was much older and larger then I. He responded, "That's the risk of foreign investment when there is no international police or authority to enforce rules." That particular game illustrates the reality that when parents, teachers, or other authority figures are absent, the biggest and strongest can make up the rules to their advantage. Today's story about Hugo Chavez is a modern day enactment of that fateful monopoly game 40 years ago.

On Wednesday, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez ordered the nationalization of at least some of the operations of the U.S.-based food giant Cargill. He also threatened to do the same with food maker Polar. Making up the rules as he went along, the bully justified his actions by accusing Cargill of growing specialized rice to evade price controls. "Begin the expropriation process with Cargill," he bellowed on national television. You see, this is a danger of socialism where the government has too much power. While one may suffer from delusions of grandeur, the delusion can quickly become a reality when a leftist president decides to take matters into his own hands. Mark Klein, a spokesman for Cargill, said the rice "was designed exclusively to manufacture parboiled rice, which the company has done at this site for the last seven years and elsewhere in the country for 13 years."

Will Kleins explanation stop the taking of the company? Unlikely. Cargill is a privately owned business with a presence in Venezuela since 1986. It employs 2,000 workers in 22 locations in Venezuela. Chavez fears no lawyers or court. As he summed it up, "It is the law."In August, Chavez showed his clout by nationalizing the Banco de Venezuela.

As I stared at the old monopoly game last night in between reading articles in the Wall Street Journal, I pondered out loud, do our current citizens really want to keep heading in a socialistic direction? Keep in mind, we are no longer playing with paper money. And unlike 40 years ago, Mom and Dad are not coming home any time soon to straighten things out.

Chris Gay Pulls Off Great Escape When Deputy Stops For Dinner At Waffle House ~by Bertha

With a name like Chris Gay, one might expect that at times in his life, Chris wanted to just disappear. Perhaps he developed that skill over years of being teased. As someone who has been unjustly teased, I want to imagine that Chris recently put that skill to use to escape from capture. Apparently, prisoner, Chris Gay, was being transported from Florida to Tennessee. During the transport, Chris vanished. Police shutdown nearby Kennesaw State University while police search for Chris.
30-year-old Chris Gay was accused of stealing a Wal-Mart truck in Coffee County, Tennessee. Chris disappeared when the deputy transporting him there from Orlando stopped at a Waffle House. Gay apparently broke out of his restraints.

Apparently this is not something new to Gay, who has been called "Little Houdini" because of previous escape attempts. For example, in 2005 Gay broke out of a Nashville, Tenn. jail to visit his sick father. In 2007, Gay escaped from a prison van despite being shackled at the waist, hands and feet. Furthermore, Gay does not lack creativity. Two years ago he allegedly took country singer Crystal Gayle's tour bus in Nashville. Gay drove the bus to Florida's Lakeland Speedway, where he said he was suppose to pick up NASCAR driver Tony Stewart.

The campus was reopened at 5:45 p.m after police could not find Gay. Officials said Kennesaw State would resume its regular schedule Wednesday. Apparently there were several alleged "sightings" of Gay at the KSU Science Building and at the Clendenin Building. (However, it probably should not surprise police that gays are present both on and off academic campus.) Police Search KSU Campus WSB-TV Channel 2 reported that Gay escaped by running from a 40 year veteran deputy who had stopped at a Waffle House at Chastain and I-75 just before 3 p.m. Canine units were used to help search for gay.
Gay had been arrested last week in Orlando after Police discovered computer records that Gay was wanted for stealing a Wal-Mart truck.

So be on the lookout for Chris Gay, a 30-year-old 5'8" 145 pound white male considered to be only armed with his intelligent wit. Or better yet, concentrate on helping find Haleigh Cummings LINK or some innocent person who is missing and let the police recapture Gay after they eat their stack of pancakes.
Update 3-17-09: Chris Gay was captured in Polk County, Fla. early Monday morning. Coffee County deputies are on their way to Florida to pick him up.

Genine Compton Charged With Child Endangerment For Breast Feeding A Child While Operating A MiniVan?

"Well, it is distracted driving," said one pub member to the other. "Sure, but why stir the wrath of women all over the country?" snorted the other. Indeed, what has the Legal Pub in such a stir on a Monday morning? Genine Compton, a 39 year old Ohio mother has been charged with child endangerment after another motorist reported that Genine was breast-feeding and talking on the phone while driving. (Now that is EITHER multi tasking OR distracted driving, if true!)

The whistle blower was a male in suburban Dayton. He told police that he spotted a minivan-driving mother dropping off children at school. Police then used the license plate number to track down the suspect. Genine Compton apparently told police that her child was hungry so she was breast-feeding. The child was under 2 years old. The legal issue is that the child was on her lap instead of in a car seat. But lets face it, the incident would not likely have been reported unless the whistle blower had noticed that she was breast-feeding in public.

Now that she is charged, it is a real issue. Compton could face up to 180 days in jail and a $1,800 fine if convicted. That is not to down play all the other negative consequences that perhaps only folks like Brenda Bouschet might be able to explain. LINK.
